How TypeSafe's Jev decides in milliseconds, where it matches general models and where it trails them, and how to route on its confidence score.
A reasoning model deciding one small thing, like whether an alert needs a human, takes anywhere from 3 seconds to several minutes. Jev answers in 70 to 500 milliseconds.
It is a System 1 model, built for fast decisions. It picks from a set of answers you define in advance, scores against a rubric, or answers true or false, and hands back a confidence score with every one.
On its maker's own benchmark, Jev matched a general model that took 25 times as long to answer and cost 75 times as much per case, and it trailed the strongest general model by 6 points. Whether the trade is worth it depends on which decision you were going to hand it, and on whether you would have noticed the difference.
